Marines Peeing on Dead Taliban

Video: Marines Peeing on Dead Taliban

The below video shows 4 United States Marines urinating on dead Taliban insurgents. The video contains graphic images, and is not edited, so please view at your own risk.

Who is in the Video?

It’s not known at this time who the Marines in the video are, but they are likely scout snipers, as one of the Marines appears to be holding an M40A3 sniper rifle, which is unconventional to regular Marine infantrymen. The Marine standing closest to the camera has rank chevrons on his shoulder, but it is hard to tell if they are for Cpl. or Sgt.

Men at War

The United States Marine Corps is a tight-knit community made up of the most elite professionals on the planet. Being that Marines operate in the smallest branch of the U.S. military, and have the lowest budget to personnel ratio, it’s important that we operate and execute more efficiently than other branches. Every once in a while, there will be an incident that leaves and eternal scare on our Corps, just as the Haditha Massacre did in 2005 (even though the Marines were acquitted). The actions displayed in this video of Marines peeing on dead Taliban insurgents is a prime example.

Yes, these actions are despicable, regardless of how people may feel towards the Taliban. This is not representative of the Marine Corps that I know and Love, and like any family, there are bound to be dysfunctional members within. With that said, it is important to understand all of the facts. These men are at war, with rules of engagement that would make the most sane Marine want to take a leak on their dead enemy. While I don’t condone these actions, and I believe that they do need to face the consequences, they should be shown mercy for serving their country and serving in combat for our freedom.

John McCain, who is the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, called the Marine Corps one of America’s strongest institutions and said its image has apparently been tarnished by “a handful of obviously undisciplined people” (McCain, 2010).

Sentimental Towards Dead Terrorists?

It’s easy to look at dead terrorists and feel no remorse for what happens to them, and some might even argue that the urinating artillery of only 4 Marines was not enough. After all, these Jihadist don’t follow the rules of war, they blow up women and children, and there isn’t a single code in the Geneva Convention that they abide by… but that doesn’t make this right. We are different. We are America. The expectations that the world holds us to are far greater than anything a dead insurgent will ever live by, but that doesn’t mean that we should go against our values and our ethos in order to achieve self-gratification.

Debbie Schlussel has a much more carnal perspective than I do, and I would guess that her sentiments echo those held by many Americans, especially those that have lost lives fighting for their country. I don’t condemn this sentiment, nor will I partake in it.

After Bin Laden was killed, I felt great joy in knowing that the evils of his command would come to an end and that the intelligence collected would lead to the saving of more lives. And it did. Some people celebrated differently when Bin Laden was killed, and while I did not agree with every person’s way of dealing with it, I did understand it.

This video of Marines peeing on dead Taliban is different. It may have been a fulfilling feeling, but a Marine’s self-gratification should never outweigh their desire to serve honorably as an elite professional. Marines are trusted with the nations greatest missions, and it is important that we maintain the deepest level of confidence of the American people.

  • Lt. Col. Allen West speech on the Marines urinating on dead Taliban…

“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Bl…ac…kw……ater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps; videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, SHUT YOUR MOUTH, war is hell.”
